Privacy policy
Last updated 1 October 2026 · covers the VSRouter app, its browser extension and this website
In short. There is no account and this site sets no cookies. Your routes, your boat and what the game tells the extension stay on your computer. We count nothing about you.
Who is responsible
VSRouter is published by an individual, who is the controller of the data described here; the legal notice says who holds the publisher's identity. Questions, and any request about your data: hello (at) vsrouter (dot) com.
The app
VSRouter runs on your computer. It has no account and no sign-in, and it does not send us your routes, your boat, your position, your game name or anything you type. Everything it saves (your settings, your routes, the weather it downloaded) is in a folder on your computer, which the app shows you and which you can delete.
To work, the app contacts these servers. Each one sees, like any web server, the IP address your connection comes from and the file you ask for:
| Server | Why |
|---|---|
| files.vsrouter.com (ours, on Cloudflare) | the land and coast data the router goes around, the race list, and the check for a new version of the app |
| The weather centres' open-data servers (NOAA, ECMWF, DWD, Environment Canada, some through their cloud copies) | the weather forecasts, downloaded to your computer while the app is open |
We do not add an identifier, an account or a tracker to these requests. The app does not send usage statistics or crash reports. If that changes in a later version, it will be off until you turn it on, this page will say exactly what is sent before it does, and the app will tell you.
The browser extension
The extension is optional. It works only on virtualregatta.com pages. It reads what the game itself sends to your browser about your boat, the fleet, the race and the wind, and hands it to the VSRouter app running on the same computer (the address 127.0.0.1, which never leaves your machine). It sends nothing to us or to anyone else, sets no cookies, and does not read your password, your other tabs or your browsing history. It keeps a small amount of state in your browser (which boat is yours, the last readings) so that it can resume after a restart; removing the extension erases it.
This website
This site sets no cookies. It has no advertising, no social-media buttons and no third-party scripts, and it does not measure its visitors. It is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA), which, to deliver the pages and protect them against abuse, processes the IP address of each visitor.
The tip jar on the support page is Ko-fi's own panel. It loads only when you click "Buy me a beer"; from then on it is Ko-fi's page, under Ko-fi's privacy policy, and a tip is handled by Ko-fi and its payment providers, never by us.
If we add an audience counter later, it will be one that sets no cookies and identifies no one, and this page will say so before it starts.
Where your data goes
Nowhere but where this page says. We sell nothing and share nothing, because we hold nothing about you. The only processors involved are Cloudflare, for the site and the file storage (a US company, covered for transfers from the European Union by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses), and the weather centres' servers, which you contact directly to get the forecasts.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask to access, correct or erase data about you, to object to its use, or to receive it. Since we hold no account or profile, there is usually nothing to return, but write to hello (at) vsrouter (dot) com and we will answer within a month. You may also complain to your data-protection authority; in France, the CNIL.
Changes
When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that adds any collection of data will be announced in the app before it takes effect.
